Karl Jahn (classical philologist)
Karl Christian Jahn , also Carl Christian Jahn (born February 25, 1777 in Oelsnitz im Vogtland , † August 1, 1854 in Bern ) was a Swiss classical philologist .
After attending schools in Oelsnitz and the Lyceum in Plauen , Karl Jahn studied philology and theology at the University of Leipzig until 1801 . In 1805 he went to Bern, where he taught at the canton school. In addition, he was professor of “Literature and the German Language” at the Academy . When the academy was transformed into the University of Bern (1834), Jahn was appointed Associate Professor of Classical Philology.
Karl Jahn was married to a Berlin Huguenot. His third son was the historian Albert Jahn (1811–1900).
