Friedrich Haag (philologist)

Friedrich Haag (born January 14, 1846 in Diessenhofen , † November 3, 1914 in Bern ) was a Swiss classical philologist .

Life

Friedrich Haag studied at the universities of Zurich , Göttingen and Berlin . After graduating as Dr. phil. In 1869 in Zurich he became a private lecturer in Slavic languages in 1873 . From 1873 to 1876 he was a teacher at the Knight and Cathedral School in Reval . From 1876 to 1884 he was rector of the Schaffhausen grammar school and from 1884 to 1891 of the Burgdorf grammar school . In 1878 the second habilitation took place in Zurich for linguistic lectures . In 1887 he was extraordinary and 1891-1906 full professor of classical philology and high school education at the University of Bern .

He wrote a controversial teaching aid for the introduction to the Latin language (1891), but also writings on the school history of the canton of Bern and Switzerland.
