Karl Körner (born April 9, 1838 in Velpke ; † October 9, 1907 in Braunschweig ; full name: Heinrich Friedrich Karl Körner ) was a German architect and professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

Life

The son of a master stone mason and quarry owner studied civil engineering at the Collegium Carolinum in Braunschweig from 1854 . His teacher, the architecture professor Heinrich Ahlburg , used him in the construction of the new court theater . In 1862, Körner became an assistant teacher for building construction drawing at the Collegium Carolinum. In 1866 he was permanently employed. Since 1871 he was a full professor of building construction theory and graphic statics. In 1872 he turned down a call to the Ludwigs-Universität Gießen . Together with Constantin Uhde , he designed the new building of what is now the Polytechnic, which was built between 1874 and 1877 and was renamed the Carolo-Wilhelmina University of Technology in 1878 . He was director of the Technical University from 1881 to 1888 and as rector from 1894 to 1896 . From 1890 to 1894 and from 1901 to 1903, Körner was head of the Department of Architecture. In 1893 he was given the title of Privy Councilor . In addition to the new building for the Technical University, Körner designed the Kuhnsche House at Fallersleber Tor and the Feldhausen House in Parkstrasse. Körner died in Braunschweig in 1907.

His son Erich Körner (1866–1951) worked as a portrait and history painter in Frankfurt and Braunschweig.
