Erich Körner

Karl Wilhelm Erich Körner (born July 18, 1866 in Braunschweig ; † March 3, 1951 there ) was a German painter .

Life

The son of the architect Karl Körner visited the Martino-Katharineum in Braunschweig . He first studied at the Technical University of Braunschweig , then from 1884 to 1886 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where Carl Theodor von Piloty was one of his teachers. From 1887 to 1889 he completed his studies at the Karlsruhe Art School under Ferdinand Keller . Körner moved to Frankfurt am Main in 1890 , where he gained a high reputation as a freelance portrait painter . From 1906 to 1931 he was first chairman of the Frankfurter Künstlergesellschaft and since 1923 a member of the Frankfurt Freemason Lodge Carl to the rising light . During his time in Frankfurt, Körner visited Braunschweig from time to time to carry out portrait assignments. In 1931 he returned to Braunschweig, where he died in 1951.

His works, including city views and pieces of flowers, are in the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum , the Städtisches Museum Braunschweig and are privately owned.

Honors

Körner was awarded the title of professor in Braunschweig in 1902. Later he was honored with the Knight's Cross II Class of the Order of Henry the Lion .
