research

His research focus was on the prehistory of the Pannonian region . He also turned his attention to research relating to the Roman Amber Road , Roman inscriptions, viticulture and, in detail, to the history of research. Pioneering scientific articles on these topics can be found in his 2006 work “Opera selecta, Burgenland. Archeology and Regional Studies ” .

With the teaching assignment for soil conservation, museum studies and exhibition design as a university lecturer at the University of Vienna, between 1978 and 1995 he sensitized prospective prehistorians to national and international monument protection and encouraged a critical examination of the presentation of scientific content for museum visitors. In more than thirty years of archaeological activity, Kaus has led over 600 excavations and finds, published around 330 articles - with the focus on archaeological finds from Burgenland - and was involved in conceptual and leading role in 200 special exhibitions. In addition to his active participation in numerous national and international congresses, he was active in adult education and worked closely with the ORF State Studio Burgenland.

In 2001 he was awarded the Burgenland Culture Prize for Science .
