Karl Maximilian of Saxony
Karl Maximilian Maria Anton Johann Nepomuk Aloys Franz Xaver January of Saxony (born September 24, 1752 in Dresden ; † September 8, 1781 ibid) was a prince from the Saxon ruling house of the Albertines , an Electorate of Saxony officer and head of the regiment .
Life
He was the third-born son of the Saxon Elector Friedrich Christian (1722–1763) and the Electress Maria Antonia (1724–1780). The later Saxon kings Friedrich August I (1750-1827) and Anton (1755-1836) were his brothers.
Although Prince Karl Maximilian shared his father's foot problems, he became an officer. 1755, at the age of three years, he took over formally as regimental commander, the infantry regiment no. 7 under actual leadership of Colonel Georg Carl von Klingenberg that after the surrender at Pirna in the Seven Years' War under General Field Marshal Friedrich Karl Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel-Bevern as Infantry Regiment S 57 was incorporated into the Prussian Army . The newly established Infantry Regiment No. 6 in Saxony was reassigned to Prince Karl Maximilian in 1758, at the age of six. The nominal subordination of regiments to underage princes was a common practice during the early modern period and was intended to instruct them as early as possible in the art of war and prepare them for later higher military positions.
Karl died in September 1781, two weeks before his 29th birthday. The funeral speech in the Catholic Court Church was held by the electoral court preacher Matthias Becker, who had already done this for Karl's mother Maria Antonia the year before. Karl Maximilian was buried in the Great Crypt of the Court Church.
