Karl Pfaff (pedagogue)
Karl Pfaff (born February 22, 1795 in Stuttgart ; † December 6, 1866 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a German educator , historian and father of a singer .
Karl Pfaff was born into a family of civil servants and scholars from Württemberg .
He attended seminars in Denkendorf and Maulbronn to prepare for university . From 1812 he studied theology and philology at the University of Tübingen . He received his doctorate in 1817 with a thesis on ancient tragedy .
In 1818 Karl Pfaff became a teacher at the pedagogy in Esslingen am Neckar. As early as 1819 he became vice principal . Thereupon he worked within a few years on the provision of teaching material for almost all subjects of the Realschule .
He also wrote historical writings on the history of Württemberg , Esslingen and the imperial cities. The Stuttgart Main State Archives and the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart keep his scientific legacy .
At the 1st Swabian Song Festival in June 1827 he was one of the main speakers. In 1828 he became the first chairman of the Esslinger Liederkranz, which had been founded a year earlier.
In 1841 Karl Pfaff became an honorary citizen of Esslingen.
In 1849 the south-west German choral societies founded the Swabian Choir Association under his leadership .
In memory of Karl Pfaff, the Swabian Singers Association donated a memorial stone that was erected on June 28, 1868 on the Esslinger Maille. Pfaff was buried in the Ebershaldenfriedhof in Esslingen .
