Karl Weber (journalist)
Karl Weber (born February 23, 1880 in Liestal ; † October 22, 1961 there ; entitled to live in Menziken and Liestal) was a Swiss journalist , newspaper scholar and politician ( FDP ).

Family and education
Karl Weber, son of the teacher Hans Wilhelm Weber and his spouse Anna Barbara born Holinger, devoted to school visits in Liestal and Basel to the study of history , philology and pedagogy at the University of Basel , where he obtained in 1906 the degree of Dr. phil. During his studies in Basel, Weber became a member of the Academic Gymnastics Association Alemannia in Basel , to which he remained loyal.
Karl Weber married Marie Helena, née Zehntner, in 1908. He died in the autumn of 1961 four months before he would have turned 82 in his hometown of Liestal.
Professional background
Karl Weber held secondary teaching positions in Binningen and Basel from 1902 , in 1909 he switched to the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung as an editor , and in 1920 in the same position for the Basler Nachrichten . In 1930 he took over the office of Bundeshaus editor of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , which he held until 1952. Karl Weber completed his habilitation in 1927 for scientific newspaper studies and practical journalism at the University of Zurich , in the following year he received a teaching position , in 1938 he was appointed adjunct professor and head of the journalistic seminar, and in 1952 he resigned. In addition, from 1942 to 1952 he held the extraordinary professorship for newspaper studies at the University of Bern . The party who joined the Liberal Democratic Party also belonged to the Basel district administrator from 1917 to 1920 .
Karl Weber, who presided over the Swiss Press Association from 1921 to 1923 and was promoted to honorary member in 1933, stood out in particular as the author of publications on his home canton and on press history.
