Karl Weichardt , also often Carl Weichardt , (born December 10, 1846 in Nermsdorf , † October 5, 1906 in Dresden ; full name: Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Weichardt ) was a German architect and architectural painter.

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter , Weichardt studied architecture at the Polytechnic School in Munich . In 1874 and 1886 he went on study trips to Rome. He taught as a professor at the Royal Art Academy and Applied Arts School in Leipzig , and from 1900 to 1906 he was professor for ornament design and figure drawing at the Technical University of Dresden .

In his buildings he oriented himself towards the ancient ideal of art and the neo-renaissance .

In addition to commercial buildings in Germany, he dealt with the reconstruction of temples, e.g. B. Pompeii (1897). On Capri he tried graphic reconstructions of the Villa Jovis . This activity stimulated him to design his house Villa Tiberius in Dresden.

In the winter of 1885 and 1886, together with other painters, he designed the dining room of the Hotel Pagano on Capri.

On November 1, 1879, he married the writer Helene Henkel (1851–1880; pseudonym: Ellen Lenneck ), who died just six months after the wedding.
