Karl Wilhelm Bonsac (born September 16, 1791 in Aken ; † August 9, 1864 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Bonsac was a descendant of Huguenot refugees. He was the son of the preacher in Aken and consistorial councilor Christian Friedrich Bonsac and his wife Dorothea Henriette, née Benecke.

Military career

Bonsac entered service in Westphalia in 1808 , became a sub-lieutenant in the 1st Hussar Regiment in 1810 and was promoted to captain until 1812 . After the French defeat at Leipzig , the Kingdom of Westphalia collapsed in October 1813 and the army also disbanded. Bonsac changed to Prussian services and was hired on May 4, 1815 as a prime lieutenant in the 4th Elb Landwehr Infantry Regiment. In mid-March 1815 he was transferred to the 3rd Elb Landwehr Infantry Regiment as a company commander. During the summer campaign in 1815 he fought in the battles of Ligny and Waterloo and the sieges of Philippeville , Givet and Mézières .

After the war, Bonsac was aggregated as captain of the 33rd Infantry Regiment on March 17, 1816 and transferred to the Berlin Guard Landwehr Battalion on April 10, 1816. From there he came on August 11, 1820 to the III. Battalion of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Regiment. This was followed from July 20, 1823 to March 29, 1826 assignments in the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Regiment and then in the 16th Infantry Regiment . After his promotion to major , Bonsac was given command of the 1st Battalion in the 27th Landwehr Regiment at the end of March 1834. He joined the 26th Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1838 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in early April 1842 . On November 2, 1844, he was initially assigned to lead the 17th Infantry Regiment , promoted Bonsac in this position to Colonel on March 22, 1845 and appointed him on August 15, 1845 as regimental commander. On January 2, 1849 he was transferred as commander of the 12th Infantry Brigade to Neisse and on February 6, 1849 he was aggregated to the 17th Infantry Regiment . Under awarding of the character as a major general Bonsac took his on April 15, 1851 farewell with board .

He died on August 9, 1864 in Magdeburg.

family

Bonsac married Karoline Emma Voigtel on March 2, 1828 in Magdeburg, the daughter of the Medical Councilor Friedrich Wilhelm Voigtel (1767-1844). The marriage resulted in the son Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Heinrich, who married Marie Boisly, the daughter of a cloth manufacturer.
