Karl Wilhelm von Pannwitz (born December 31, 1798 in Berlin , † December 17, 1859 in Petershayn near Drebkau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian major Heinrich von Pannwitz (1750-1811) and his wife Amalie Karoline Luise Christiane Sonnenberg (1768-1833).

Military career

Pannwitz joined the Prussian Army's Leib-Infantry Regiment on March 8, 1812 and was transferred to the 1st Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 13 on September 25, 1813 when he was promoted to Second Lieutenant . During the wars of liberation he took part in the sieges of Stettin, Wittenberg and Torgau , the storm on Wittenberg and the fighting near Großbeeren and Dessau. Pannwitz received a commendation for Belzig.

After the war he was transferred to the 6th Infantry Regiment at the end of July 1815 and promoted to Prime Lieutenant on June 30, 1821 . From 1822 to 1825 Pannwitz completed the general war school for further training and was assigned to the topographic office in 1826/29 . This was followed by a command as a company commander to the 6th Landwehr Regiment from December 1829 to November 1830. With the promotion to captain and the appointment to company commander , Pannwitz returned to the 6th Infantry Regiment on June 14, 1832. In this position he received the service cross at the end of June 1836 . On March 30, 1840 he was transferred to the 23rd Infantry Regiment as a major and battalion commander and promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-November 1849 . Pannwitz was appointed commander of the 20th Infantry Regiment on April 18, 1850 and promoted to colonel on April 19, 1851 . On November 2, 1854 he was transferred to Brandenburg an der Havel as commander of the 12th Infantry Brigade and at the end of the month he was hired à la suite of his former regiment. Pannwitz was born on July 12, 1855 Major General and took part in the April 4, 1857 his parting with inn . On May 11, 1858, his pension was put up for disposal , and on December 8, 1858 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. He died the following year on December 17, 1859 in Petershayn.

family

Pannwitz married on November 20, 1832 in Glogau Alwine von Sommerfeld (1811-1835), a daughter of General August von Sommerfeld . From this marriage the son Karl Alwin (1835–1872) emerged, who was murdered in Goodfarm, Grundy Country .

After the death of his first wife, he married on June 28, 1843 in Petershayn Pauline von Rotberg (1817-1893), Mistress of Petershayn. He had two children with her:

  • Otto Karl Wilhelm (1845–1870), farmer
  • Maria Pauline Henritte (1846–1929) ⚭ April 21, 1870 Karl von Ramm (1840–1886), Lieutenant Colonel
