Karl von Podjursky

Karl von Podjursky (born March 29, 1720 , † May 12, 1781 in Wartenberg ) was a Prussian major general , chief of Hussar Regiment No. 4 and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

origin

He comes from an old Polish family. His parents were the Polish captain Christoph von Podjursky and his wife Katharina von Zandrowitz. His father had already under Johann III. Sobieski fought against the Turks.

Military career

With the beginning of the Silesian Wars in 1741 Podjursky came as a second lieutenant in the hussar regiment "von Natzmer" and became prime lieutenant in the same year . He took part in the battles of Hohenfriedberg and Thrush .

In 1746 he became staff assistant master and on December 25, 1748 Rittmeister . During the Seven Years' War he became a major in 1757 and a lieutenant colonel on December 25, 1759 . Podjursky took part in the battles of Reichenberg , Prague , Kolin , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Kay , Kunersdorf and Torgau . He was also able to distinguish himself in Plauen in 1761. At the head of the second battalion of the regiment, he attacked the retreating Imperial Army and captured three cannons. In an outpost battle near Röhrsdorf, he made 50 prisoners and 70 prey horses.

In 1768 he became a colonel and in 1770 the head of the regiment. Remarkably, Podjursky had spent his entire career in the same regiment. On June 9, 1775, he was appointed major general and received the order Pour le Mérite.

family

Podjursky married Karoline Wilhelmine Erdmuthe von Salisch in 1772 and after her death in 1778 Johanna Christine Wilhelmine von Koschembahr (* January 13, 1761: † July 9, 1816). The marriage remained without children. The widow married Lieutenant Colonel Heinrich Leopold von Forcade , head of a fuselage battalion. His wife was the sister of Louise Henriette von Koschenbahr (1725–1799), wife of General Charles-Emmanuel de Warnery .
