Karl Gottlieb Reinhold Edmund Hans Heinrich Ferdinand Voigt , von Voigt since 1896 , (born March 12, 1841 in Mainz , † September 3, 1911 in Honnef ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from a Kurland family from Libau and was the son of the Prussian major Carl Gottlieb Reinhold von Voigt (1802-1857) and the widowed from his first marriage Kathinka (Katharina) Freiin von Fechenbach (house Sommerau; † 1853). Like all descendants of the Prussian major a. D. Gottlieb von Voigt († 1809) - raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on September 25, 1896 with a diploma from January 11, 1897 .

Military career

Voigt embarked on an officer career in the Prussian Army . He took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. From April 18, 1893 to June 15, 1896 he was in command of the 16th Cavalry Brigade in Trier . In this position, Voigt was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on January 24, 1896 .

family

Voigt married Marie Haldy (* 1851 in Saarbrücken; † August 10, 1873 there) in his first marriage on November 20, 1871 in Saarbrücken . In his second marriage he married Bertha Wutzer on December 2, 1875 in Bonn (born September 27, 1846 in Bonn; † November 25, 1913 in Honnef). The third child of this second marriage is the all-round artist and poetry translator Hans-Henning von Voigt (1887–1969), also known under his pseudonym “Alastair”.

Voigt was very attached to his homeland and after the death of the founder Adolf Dronke, he was the main chairman of the Eifelverein from 1898 to 1904 .
