Kartlow is part of the municipality of Kruckow in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district .

Kartlow is 2.5 kilometers south-east of Kruckow and the federal highway 110 . The district road VG 107 leads through the village , from which the district road VG 104 branches off to Heydenhof to the south . The place is on a plateau with about 20 meters above sea ​​level . The nearby height is the Danzel mountain at 25.1 meters.

history

Kartlow was first mentioned in a document in 1245. At that time there was a permanent house of the Dukes of Pomerania-Demmin . In 1292, under Bogislaw IV , the princely castle was transferred to the von Heyden family , who also had jurisdiction over their heads. In 1560, Duke Philipp issued the first fiefdom letter to the von Heyden family .

During the Thirty Years War , Kartlow was looted and the castle destroyed in 1630. From 1648 Kartlow was under Swedish administration. The fiefdom of those von Heyden from 1560 was 1703 by the Swedish king Karl XII. approved.

In 1715 the Prussian administration began in Kartlow . The market in Kartlow was abolished in 1722 by a royal patent and assigned to Jarmen . In 1800 the manor burned down with the exception of the house.

Under Woldemar von Heyden-Cartlow (1809–1871) the Kartlow estate experienced an economic boom. The property was expanded significantly and eventually had 4,500 hectares. Woldemar ran a bank and had a barque called Cartlow built to export grain to Britain.

In 1856 the newly built castle was moved into, it was a Renaissance building based on the English Tudor style. In 1870 the von Heyden family received from the Prussian king the title of count, which was linked to a Fideikommiss , under which they continued to reside at Kartlow Castle until 1945. With the land reform , the last owner, Hubertus von Heyden, was expropriated and the castle became the property of the municipality, it was a residential building, consumption, kindergarten and the seat of the LPG administration.

The structure of the village center and the estate have remained largely unchanged.

Kartlow Castle

The Kartlow Castle was from 1853 to 1859 according to plans by Schinkel -Schülers Friedrich Hitzig built. The model was Chambord Castle in France. At the same time as the palace was built, the park was also set up in the style of an English landscape garden based on plans by Peter Joseph Lenné . The three towers of different heights are a special feature of the castle. Wall paintings have been preserved in the entrance hall and in the ladies' room.

In the 1990s the mansion came back into private ownership. After renovating the facades and roofs, as well as most of the interior, holiday apartments were set up on the upper floor.

In 2009 there was another change of ownership. In extensive renovation work, the entire facility and the park were modernized and has now become a location for modern horse breeding. All holiday apartments have been removed and it is now the owner's private residence.

Kartlower Church (north side)

The Kartlower St. John's Church was consecrated in 1249. The choir was built from field stones with brick details, the church hall from brick. The baptismal font made of Gotland limestone is dated to the 13th century . In 1796 a lattice tower was built, which was replaced by a brick building in 1869. The neo-Gothic wooden interior also dates from this period. The organ was built in 1870 by Barnim Grüneberg from Stettin.

A former Vorwerk von Kartlow, which was laid out in 1820/21. In 1897 there was a station of the Demminer Kleinbahnen Ost on the Demmin-Jarmen line.
Developed in 1820 through the evacuation of seven farmers based on the Stein-Hardenberg reform of 1813. A field stone building at the entrance to the town, the so-called hospital, was built by Woldemar von Heyden in 1851/52 and served as a kind of old people's home for farm workers and invalids.
