Kaspar Rehrl

Kaspar Rehrl (born December 31, 1809 in Salzburg , † September 3, 1881 in Barton , Washington County , Wisconsin ) was an Austrian missionary and founder of the order .

Life

Kaspar Rehrl, of the district of Salzburg Aigen grew up, studied from 1832 to 1836 theology at the University of Salzburg and has already received in 1835, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked for around eight years, from 1836 to 1844, as a pastor and chaplain in various parishes in the Archdiocese of Salzburg .

With financial support from the Roman Catholic Leopoldinenstiftung , Rehrl traveled to the United States in 1845, where he settled in the Wisconsin Territory . In the years to come, Rehrl, who became known in the USA by the English first name Caspar , was responsible for looking after no fewer than 32 parishes, including in Sheboygan , Manitowoc and Green Bay . In 1845 he became the first priest of the St. John the Baptist Parish church, founded by Germans in 1841 . Rehrl also founded schools and churches around which cities themselves formed. The best-known example of this was the small town of Mount Calvary in Fond du Lac County , Wisconsin.

On August 12, 1858, Rehrl founded the St. Agnes School Sisters , an order that initially worked in Barton and the surrounding area and today leads monasteries in Kansas and New York . In 1875 the congregation of the Vatican and Pope Pius IX. officially recognized.

Kaspar Rehrl, who died at the age of 71, is buried at St. Agnes Sisters Cemetery in Fond du Lac , Wisconsin. He holds the honorary title of Apostle of Calumet County and Apostle of Winnebagoland .
