The Wisconsin Maritime Museum was founded in 1970. Worldwide fame

Manitowoc became popular worldwide through the case of Steven Avery , who was innocent in prison for 18 years. After his release, he was charged and convicted of murder, although he again protested his innocence and the evidence against him cast great doubt. In 2015 , the documentary series Making a Murderer was published by Netflix . Several days of trial against Avery on both charges were held in the Manitowoc Courthouse.
