Kateryna Oleksandriwna Derun ( Ukrainian Катерина Олександрівна Дерун ; born September 24, 1993 in Schpykiw , Vinnytsia Oblast ) is a Ukrainian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Her first major event was the 2009 World Youth Championships in Brixen , where she was eliminated in qualification. A few weeks later she was fifth at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere . In 2010 she won the gold medal at the first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . In 2011 she finished twelfth at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn . In 2012, the qualification for the Junior World Championships in Barcelona and 2013 at the U23 European Championships followed . In 2015 she won the silver medal at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn behind the clear favorite from Germany, Christin Hussong . In addition, she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the qualification . In 2016 she qualified for both the European Championships in Amsterdam and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but dropped out of the qualification both times .
