Katharina von Hanau (1408–1460)

Katharina von Hanau (* January 25, 1408 ; † September 25, 1460 ) was the eldest daughter of Reinhard II. Von Hanau , who became the first Count of Hanau in 1429, and of Katharina von Nassau-Beilstein († September 6, 1459).

Katharina von Hanau was married twice:

  1. 1421 with Count Thomas II von Rieneck (* before 1408; † February 8, 1431), widower twice, previously married first to Elisabeth von Henneberg , then to Elisabeth von Castell . These first marriages were childless. The engagement took place on October 14, 1419. After the wedding, it was equipped with Wildenstein Castle . Out of marriage emerged
    1. Philipp the Elder, zu Grünsfeld , Lauda and Wildenstein († December 5, 1488), married to Count Palatine Amalia von Pfalz-Mosbach (* 1433; † May 15, 1483), daughter of Count Palatine Otto I of Palatinate-Mosbach
    2. Philip the Younger, zu Lohr , Gemünden , Brückenau and Schildeck († July 14, 1497); He was at first spiritual, entered the secular class in 1454 and married twice:

After the death of her first husband, Katharina was the guardian of government for her underage children in the County of Rieneck . After her remarriage, this task was taken over by her brother, Count Reinhard III. from Hanau .

Katharina died on September 25, 1460 at Maßfeld Castle near Meiningen .
