Katie Leclerc
Katie Lynn Leclerc (born November 6, 1986 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American actress who is best known for her leading role as Daphne Vasquez in the television series Switched at Birth .
life and career
Katie Leclerc was in November 1986 in San Antonio in the US state of Texas born. She is the youngest of three siblings and grew up in Lakewood , Colorado . She is hard of hearing ; when she was 20 years old, she was diagnosed with Meniere's disease , a degenerative disease of the inner ear. Her father and older sister also have the disease.
Leclerc discovered her passion for acting when she starred in the play Annie in elementary school . After moving to San Diego , California with her family , she attended a drama class in her high school , Valley Center High . She gained her first experience in the industry with commercials for Pepsi , AT&T Wireless , Comcast and General Electric . She made her acting debut in 2005 with a guest appearance on the series Veronica Mars .
In the next five years, other minor roles in television series such as Fashion House , The Riches and The Hard Times of RJ Berger followed . In 2009 she worked in the films Music in My Heart , alongside Billy Ray Cyrus , Heather Locklear and Olesya Rulin, and in The Inner Circle . In 2011, she was in the popular CBS - sitcom The Big Bang Theory , a supporting role as a friend of Rajesh Koothrappali , played by Kunal Nayyar .
Leclerc's breakthrough came with one of the leading roles in the ABC Family series Switched at Birth . In it she plays alongside Vanessa Marano , Lea Thompson and Lucas Grabeel the role of the deaf Daphne Vasquez , who was swapped for another baby shortly after her birth. For this role she was nominated at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards in the Choice Breakout Star category. In 2013 she took on the leading role of Katie Lapp in the Hallmark - TV film Can you forgive me? Alongside Sherry Stringfield ? - The fate of Katie Lapp .
In September 2014, Katie Leclerc married her longtime boyfriend, a real estate agent.
