Kay Gausa (born July 1, 1992 in Hamburg ) is a former German professional basketball player . He played twelve games in the basketball league .

Gausa began his career at SC Rist Wedel at the age of nine, for whom he played with the men's team in the third-highest division ProB . From 2012 to 2014 he played for the first division club Ratiopharm Ulm, where he also continued to play in the ProB for the “ farm team ” Weissenhorn Youngstars with a double license . For the 2014/15 season Gausa moved to the second highest division ProA to the Oettinger Rockets Gotha. After two cruciate ligament tears within eleven months at the beginning of each season, Gausa was thrown back considerably in his development as a professional player. In January 2016 Gausa was signed by the Hamburg Towers . A few weeks later, Gausa suffered another cruciate ligament injury and announced the end of his professional career in May 2016 at the age of 23.

Career

Gausa comes from the youth work of long-time second division club SC Rist from Wedel , who has already produced several national players such as Ingo Freyer and Marvin Willoughby . From 2008 to 2011 Gausa played in the youth basketball league (NBBL) for the Wedel cooperation team Bramfelder SV, with which, however, could not qualify for the final round. Since 2009 Gausa also played in the men's division for the Wedel second division team, where he was finally one of the top performers from the ProB 2010/11 with an average of over 20 minutes playing time per game. In the ProB 2011/12 Wedel made it into the play-offs for promotion to the ProA , in which, however, they were eliminated in the first round.

After the end of the 2011/12 season, Gausa switched to the first division club Ratiopharm Ulm , for whom he also had short stints in the European club competition ULEB Eurocup in the following two seasons , but otherwise continued to play in the ProB mainly with a double license with the Ulm cooperation partner and farm team of Weissenhorn . Together with Till-Joscha Jönke , who was elected Youngster of the Year of the ProB 2012/13 as a double licensee , Gausa barely missed promotion to the ProA in the play-off semi-final series against record champions Bayer Giants Leverkusen . After Gausa already had nine short appearances for Ulm in the top German league in addition to his appearances in the European Cup in the 2012/13 basketball league , he tore a cruciate ligament in November 2013 after three more first division appearances in the new season the end of the season meant. After Gausa was back in the extended group of the A2 national team in the summer of 2014, Gausa suffered another cruciate ligament rupture after switching to ProA league team Oettinger Rockets from Gotha in October 2014 after four championship appearances, which means the end of the season for him again . At the beginning of 2016, Gausa played four games for the Pro A league club Hamburg Towers before he suffered another cruciate ligament injury. He then ended his professional career in May 2016.

In summer 2020 he joined the Hamburg club Eimsbütteler TV as a youth coach .
