Kaytranada (* 25. August 1992 in Port-au-Prince , Haiti ; real name Louis Kevin Celestin ) is a producer of electronic music whose style of house , hip-hop (especially J Dilla ) and Contemporary R & B influenced.

biography

Celestin was born in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, but moved as a child to the Canadian Montreal to. There he came into contact with music and the production software FruityLoops through his older brother who listened to hip-hop . He then began to create his own beats .

Initially, under the stage name Kaytradamus occurring, Celestin published his first mixtapes , EPs , albums and remix - Compilations . These were mostly only published digitally via smaller labels such as Jakarta Records . His growing popularity on social networks eventually earned him a recording deal with XL Recordings .

From then on he produced for well-known artists such as Mobb Deep ( My Block ), The Internet ( Girl ) and Katy B ( Honey ). He also performed at the 2015 Roskilde Festival .

In 2016 he finally released his first professionally released album with 99.9% , with which he was briefly listed in various music charts and the Polaris Music Prize , which is awarded for the artistically most valuable album of the year by a Canadian musician, as well as the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the year.

Until 2018 he mainly dealt with remixes and productions for artists like Gorillaz , Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar before his 3-song EP Nothin Like U / Chances was released.

In spring 2019 he first released the single Dysfunctional , which was followed by his second album Bubba at the end of this year .
