The Kehrenbach rises and runs in the northeast part of the Schwalm-Eder district in the Melsunger Bergland , part of the Fulda-Werra Bergland in the East Hessian Upland. Its source lies between the mountains of Breiter Stein ( 533.2 m above sea level ) in the east-northeast and Salsmbachskopf ( 493.2 m ) in the south and the village of Kehrenbach (northeastern part of Melsungen) in the south-west. In a wooded area it is located between the mountain spurs Großer Süttelsberg in the west and Kleiner Süttelsberg in the east, near a forest path at about 420 m .
The predominantly southwest extending Kehrenbach initially flows through the west-southwest of Salmsbachkopf and its southwest spur Castle Hill (about 452 m ) on the circuit road location 141 village Kehrenbach, which used in Bach near west below the Castle Hill s the hunting seat Kehrenbach stand. Along the K 141, which ends in the village, the stream flows further south. Somewhat below the village, after the northwestern sand ditch flows to the right , the left-hand Ohebach flows in from the east .
Then the Kehrenbach runs southwest along the state road 3147 (Melsungen – Kirchhof– Günsterode ) through the village of Kirchhof (east-northeast part of Melsungen), after which it crosses under the 306 m long Kehrenbach viaduct of the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg . Then he leaves the Melsunger Bergland and flows into the Melsunger core city, where he passes the premises of the pharmaceutical and medical supply company Braun .
Finally, the Kehrenbach flows into Melsungen around 150 m after crossing under the Melsung Viaduct , over which the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn (Kassel-Bebra-Fulda) runs, coming from the east directly east-southeast of the Bartenwetzerbrücke at around 164 m above sea level. NN into the Weser source river Fulda coming from the south .
