With 357 first division appearances for Trabzonspor, after Hami Mandıralı (468 appearances) and Turgay Semercioğlu (402 appearances), he is the player with the third most popular Süper Lig appearances in the club's history. Serdar was born in the northern Turkish port city of Trabzon and started his club career in 1978 at the local amateur club Düzköy SK. From here he moved to the youth department of Akçaabat Sebat Gençlik , another club in the Trabzon province , and played here until 1982. He was then involved in the professional squad of the second division and played here for a season.

In the summer of 1983 Serdar then moved to the most successful club in the Trabzon Province, Trabzonspor . At this club he immediately asserted himself as a regular player and also rose to the Turkish U-21 national team . With his team he reached the Turkish football double by winning the Turkish championship and the Turkish football cup in the 1983/84 season . This success was very important for the club's history because it was to be the last championship and the last double for the time being. The club had previously achieved the championship completely surprisingly in its second first division season, the 1975/76 season . Up to this season, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul decided the Turkish championship among themselves. With Eskişehirspor , another Anatolian club narrowly missed the championship three times, but the ban remained. It was only broken with Trabzonspor's championship. After this first championship, Trabzonspor also dominated the league the next season and, in addition to the championship, collected all other trophies in Turkish football by winning the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Supercup . In this last championship season 1983/84 of the club Serdar was after the goalkeeper Şenol Güneş with 44 appearances the player with the most competitive appearances for his team.

The following seasons Trabzonspor always occupied a place in the table in the top place in the table, but it lost the dominance that distinguished it within the league until the last championship. Serdar remained an important player over the years and also rose to become a Turkish national player . In the late 1980s he was promoted to team captain Trabzonspors and remained so until 1992. On September 5, 1992 he completed his 400th competitive game for Trabzonspor with the game against Galatasaray Istanbul . In February 1992 Serdar was released from his position as team captain by coach Georges Leekens and suspended from the squad for an indefinite period. Ünal Karaman was chosen as the new captain and the team's wish was given as the reason for this change of captain. A week later, Serdar was re-added to the squad after apologizing to coach Leekens. Despite his demotion, Serdar knew how to convince with good performances and quickly fought for a regular place again. At the end of the season he was nevertheless put on the sales list by Leekens. Because of his merits, Serdar was kept in the squad by the club's management and Leekens was persuaded to stay with Serdar. After Trabzonspor made an unexpectedly bad start in the 1993/94 season, Serdar was suspended from the squad along with Lemi Çelik von Leekens. After the subsequent 0-1 defeat on Matchday 4 against Karşıyaka SK Leekens was finally dismissed and replaced by the club's former player legend, Şenol Güneş . Under Güneş, with whom Serdar had played for several years at Trabzonspor, he regained his regular place and played most competitive games by the end of the season. The following season, the 1994/95 season , Serdar also lost his regular place under Güneş, but came as a supplementary player to 25 competitive appearances. This season, Trabzonspor played for the Turkish championship from the beginning of the last championship season and was head-to-head with Beşiktaş Istanbul throughout the season . The season ended as runner-up and thus achieved the best placement since the last championship in 1983/84 . In addition, they became Turkish Cup winners this season . After this successful season, Serdar decided to end his playing career. With a farewell game against FC Dinamo Batumi , he ended his playing career on August 5, 1995.

For the 1997/98 season he played one more season at the local amateur club Trabzon Erdoğduspor and then finally ended his career.

National team

Three months after moving to Trabzonspor , he played for the Turkish U-21 national team for the first time in November 1983 . About a year after this mission he was nominated for the Turkish national team and was one of the national players who were often nominated for the next seven years. He played his last international match on May 1, 1991 against the English national team .
