Kevin John Edusei (born August 5, 1976 in Bielefeld ) is a German conductor .

biography

Kevin John Edusei has been chief conductor of the Münchner Symphoniker since the beginning of the 2014/2015 season and chief conductor of the Konzert Theater Bern since the 2015/16 season .

Kevin John Edusei attracted international attention with his first prize at the “Dimitris Mitropoulos Conducting Competition” in 2008. Invitations as a guest conductor took him to the podium of European ensembles, including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Komische Oper Berlin , the Residentie Orkest Den Haag , the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra , the German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate , the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra , the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg , the Munich Radio Orchestra , the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt .

In the 2008/09 season he made his successful debut with Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden . In February 2010 he took over from Fabio Luisi the resumption of Paul Hindemith's Cardillac , a production which he directed again in 2012. In the 2012/13 season he made his debut with the Magic Flute at the Vienna Volksoper . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, the conductor was at the podium of the newly founded Chineke! Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall London.

During his time as 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at the theaters in Bielefeld and Augsburg during the 2004–2011 seasons, he was responsible for the musical direction of numerous musical theater productions such as Fidelio , Don Carlos , Madama Butterfly , Le nozze di Figaro , Die Zauberflöte , Il barbiere di Siviglia , Lucia di Lammermoor , Orfeo ed Euridice , The distant sound and Tristan and Isolde . He also celebrated success with Kurt Weill's Der Silbersee and the German premieres of Toshio Hosokawa's Hanjo and Bernhard Lang's musical theater work I hate Mozart .

As one of the three winners of the conducting competition initiated by Pierre Boulez and Péter Eötvös , he conducted Karlheinz Stockhausen's magnum opus groups for three orchestras at the 2007 Lucerne Festival .

Maestro David Zinman named him Academy Conductor during his three-month scholarship to the Aspen Music Festival in 2004 . He received further significant inspirations from Marc Albrecht , Kurt Masur , Jorma Panula , Sylvain Cambreling and Péter Eötvös.

Kevin John Edusei was sponsored by the German Music Council as part of the Conductors' Forum and was included in the list of artists “Maestros of Tomorrow”. He was also a scholarship holder of the International Ensemble Modern Academy and the Akademie Musiktheater heute, supported by Deutsche Bank. He completed his studies in conducting, sound engineer and classical percussion at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Royal Academy of Music in The Hague in the class of Jac van Steen and Ed Spanjaard.
