Kiddcreekite is a very rarely occurring mineral from the mineral class of sulfides and sulfosalts . It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system with the chemical composition Cu 6 SnWS 8 and forms irregularly shaped grains up to 100 μm in size, edges on scheelite or inclusions in colusite and chalcopyrite of gray-brown color.

Etymology and history

The mineral was first in 1984 by DC Harris, AC Roberts, RI Thorp, AJ Criddle and Stanley CS in the Kidd Creek mine in Timmins in the Canadian province of Ontario found. They named it after the place where it was found.

classification

In the Strunz system , kiddcreekite is counted among the metal sulfides with a ratio of metal to sulfur, selenium or tellurium of 1: 1. After the 8th edition , it forms a group together with hemusite . In the 9th edition , it forms a subgroup of sulfides with zinc , iron , copper or silver with catamarcaite , vinciennite , hemusite, morozeviczite , polkovicit and renierite .

In the Dana systematics , it forms with hemusite a subgroup of sulfides, selenides and tellurides with a general formula A m B n X p and a ratio of (m + n) to p of 1: 1.

Education and Locations

Kiddcreekite forms in copper sulphide ores. Depending on where it was found, it is associated with scheelite , carrollite , clausthalite , tennantite , tungstenite and sphalerite or pyrite , colusite , supportite and altaite .

Only four sites are known of the very rare mineral (as of October 2010). In addition to the type locality , Kiddcreekit was found in two mines in Bisbee in the US state of Arizona and Shanghang in the People's Republic of China .

Crystal structure

Kiddcreekite crystallizes in the cubic crystal system with the lattice parameter a = 10.856  Å and four formula units per unit cell .
