Vinciennite is a very rarely occurring mineral from the mineral class of sulfides and sulfosalts . It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system with the chemical composition Cu 10 Fe 4 Sn (As, Sb) S 16 and forms grains of orange color up to a millimeter in size.
Etymology and history
The mineral was first found in 1985 by F. Cesbron, R. Girauld, P. Picot and F. Pillard in the Chizeuil mine near Chalmoux in the Saône-et-Loire department ( France ). They named it after the French mineralogy professor Henri Vincienne .
classification
In the Strunz system , vinciennite is counted among the metal sulfides with a ratio of metal to sulfur, selenium or tellurium of 1: 1. After the 8th edition , it forms a group with colusite , germanite , maikainite , morozeviczite , nekrasovite , ovamboite , polkovicit , renierite , stibiocolusite , sulvanite and germanocolusite . In the 9th edition , it forms a subgroup of sulfides with zinc , iron , copper or silver with catamarcaite , hemusite , kiddcreekite , morozeviczite, polkovicit and renierite .
In the Dana system , it forms its own subgroup of sulfosalts with the composition (A + ) i (A 2+ ) j [B y C z ] (A: metals, B: semi-metals, C. non-metals) and the ratio of z / y> 4.
Education and Locations
Vinciennite forms in copper deposits that contain other tin-containing sulphides. It is associated with pyrite , chalcopyrite , colusite , stannite , stannoidite , mawsonite , bornite , enargite , tetrahedrite - tennantite , quartz and barite .
Only four locations (as of July 2010) are known of the very rare mineral. In addition to its type locality , Vinciennite was found in the Argentine province of Salta , Kamloops and Cochrane in Canada , Huaron in Peru and Perwomaiski in Russia .
Crystal structure
Vinciennite crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system in the space group P 4 / mmm, P 4mm, P 422 or P 4 1 22 with the lattice parameters a = 10.69 Å and c = 10.69 Å as well as two formula units per unit cell .
