occupation

Kill Your Friends is a thriller by Owen Harris based on a novel by John Niven and premiered on August 5, 2015 as the opening film of the Fantasy Film Festival . The film was released in Germany on March 18, 2016 directly on DVD and Blu-ray.

action

In 1997 the UK music industry was at its peak and the rise of Britpop bands like Blur , Oasis and The Verve was in full swing. In London, 27-year-old A&R manager Steven Stelfox is trying to ride this wave and find the next great talent, but the music business also has its downsides. With a lot of passion, but also pumped full of drugs, Steven wants to fill the coffers of his music label, but also advance his own career. Its seemingly unstoppable rise is slowed, however, when Britpop passes its zenith and the whole music industry changes. Steven, who is under great pressure to succeed, has to murder a colleague in order to stay in business, and soon a bloody trail adorns his career ladder.

production

On February 12, 2014, it was announced that Nicholas Hoult would take on the role of A&R manager Steven Stelfox. On March 3, 2014, it was announced that Jim Piddock is taking over the role of his boss Derek Sommers, who is the music label's managing director.

Filming began in London on March 10, 2014 and ended five weeks later. The film was shot at Pinewood Studios and in Greater London .

reception

The film was rated positively by 23 percent of Rotten Tomatoes critics (out of a total of 60 critics as of July 24, 2019). Benjamin Lee of The Guardian thinks the film title is poorly implemented because there are no friends in the film and the focus on bad people who do bad things is just repeated too often in the film. The film tries too hard to be shocking and also suffers from bad cast. So Hoult seems too young for his role.
