Controversial cinema
Kino Kontrovers is an ongoing DVD collection that has been published by the German media company Legend Home Entertainment since 2004 . The series has been published via Bavaria Media since August 2011 . In 2014 the rights changed to EuroVideo .
concept
To this day, the original film series included controversial author films such as Die 120 Tage von Sodom or German first releases such as the film Misanthrope . Each film was accompanied by a booklet which, in the form of an essay, gave backgrounds, interpretations and information about the film and the motivation and life of the director. Extensive additional material was published on the DVDs, such as the soundtrack to Ex Drummer , an audio commentary by Alejandro Jodorowsky on his film Santa Sangre, as well as cinema posters and making-ofs .
With the takeover by Bavaria Media, a subsidiary of Bavaria Film , the concept was changed. The brand was revived in the last quarter of 2011, initially with the re-release of the film series, later releases for the first time on Blu-ray Disc . Bavaria Media wants to work closely with EuroVideo . The first project is the movie Tyrannosaur - a love story , a social drama and Sundance winner from 2011, which was released by Kino Kontrovers on October 13, 2011.
In the new series, in which new films have been brought onto the market on average every month since August 2011, the films are published in Digipak format in Mediabooks . There is a booklet for each film, complete with artwork, interviews with the directors and information on the history of the making and the content of the films. While titles 1–7 were still available on DVD , Kino Kontrovers started with the release of hunting scenes from Lower Bavaria on February 9, 2012, with the films in double media books, both with and on Blu-ray Disc the execution of the film on DVD.
Other new films are the social drama Code Blue by the Dutchwoman Urszula Antoniak , the Peter Watkins classic Strafpark and the controversial Michael by the Austrian Markus Schleinzer , as well as the documentary film, which is important for the gay and lesbian movement in German-speaking countries, Not the homosexual is perverse, but the situation , in which he lives Rosa von Praunheims . The order of publication has to be decided first. With the announcement of the participation of the black comedian social drama God Bless America by the director and comedian Bobcat Goldthwait at the Fantasy Filmfest 2012, it was also confirmed on the official Facebook presence that the order of the upcoming film releases has been changed.
In June 2014, Kino Kontrovers confirmed on Facebook that the series had completely switched to EuroVideo .

reception
Joachim Kurz from the arthouse film portal kino-zeit.de described the original series as a preoccupation with "the so-called" basement children "of arthouse cinema, with films that break through the boundaries of good taste and taboos, but not for a vague end in themselves, but as a closely observed image of our society and our environment. "Martin Muhl from The Gap wrote about the sequel:" These films should not only be discussed because of their content, but also as films and works with a strong author's signature. [...] This is where categories falter and backgrounds and contexts become unusually important. ”The magazine's online page then received the titles published since November 2011, which include both“ great works ”and“ tough strips ”.
