The Church of the burning of the relics of St. Sava. ( Serbian : Црква спаљивања моштију светог Саве, Crkva spaljivanja moštiju svetog Save) is a Serbian Orthodox church in Barajevo , headquarters of the suburban community Barajevo the Serbian metropolis and capital of Belgrade .

It was built from 2004 to 2006. The church building is dedicated to the event when the Ottomans under Sinan Pasha demonstratively burned the relics of the Serbian national saint , the first archbishop and the enlightener of the Serbian people, Sava of Serbia on the Vračar hill in Belgrade .

It is the parish church of the parish Barajevo I and the seat of the parish of the same name in the dean's office Beljanica, the eparchy Šumadija of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

location

The church is located in the center of Barajevo in the Gaj settlement on Svetosavska ulica No. 35. Behind the church, the Barajevska reka flows through the village. Next to the church is the Barajevo market square. Not far from the church is the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in Barajevo.

Next to the church, in the fenced church yard, there is the rectory, consecrated to St. Simeon Mirotočivi , the church and community center, a chapel for lighting candles, a church fountain and a pavilion. The church's graveyard is considered to be one of the most beautiful and decorative in the area.

history

In April 2004 construction began on the Church of the Burning of the Relics of St. Sava and the rectory. In September 2006 the church and the rectory were completed.

And on September 30, 2006, the feast of the Holy Martyrs Vera, Nada and Ljubav and their mother Sofija , the church and the rectory were solemnly inaugurated by the bishop of the eparchy Šumadija Jovan (Mladenović) .

The following clergy assisted the bishop at the inauguration: the archpriest Miloš Vukojević (then head of the dean's office Beljanica), the archpriest and high priest of the Dormition Cathedral in Kragujevac Zarije Božović, the archpriest and parish priest of Vranić Radivoje Mitrović, the archpriest and parish priest by Pećani Vojislav Odović, the archpriest and parish priest of Barajevo Vido Milić, the priest monk and head of the Denkovac monastery Serafim (Božić) and four deacons . Hundreds of believers came to the church consecration.

During the solemn inauguration of the church, a small part of the relics of the Holy Great Martyr Tsar Lazar was placed in the church altar . The consecration of the church and the liturgical celebration were accompanied by the choir of the Musicological Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts under the direction of the academic Dimitrije Stefanović.

Pastor Vido Milić had been very committed to the rapid construction of the church. He has been the Church's priest since 2006 until today. Zoran Stanković serves as parish deacon in the church. In addition to priest Milić, the mayor of Belgrade, Nenad Bogdanović, who died in 2007, was very committed to the church.

In 2016 the church celebrated its tenth anniversary. She has her own church choir.

architecture

The single - nave cross-domed church with a semicircular altar - apse in the east, a round dome over the middle of the nave at the intersection of the side arms of the church and a church tower with an entrance portal in the west, is built in the style of the Morava school , a style of the Serbian-Byzantine architectural style . The church has a main entrance on the west facade with a patronage fresco of St. Sava and a side entrance on the south side.

The church has a (richly decorated wooden) iconostasis with icons , which is typical for Orthodox churches . It is painted with artistically valuable Byzantine frescoes , but these are not completely finished.
