Kirn-Sulzbach is a district of the association-free town of Kirn in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until 1969 the place was an independent municipality under the name "Kirnsulzbach".

geography

Kirn-Sulzbach is located on the left bank of the Nahe . Neighboring towns are Heimweiler , Bärenbach , Niederreidenbacherhof, Weierbach, Fischbach (near Idar-Oberstein) , Berschweiler near Kirn and Bergen . While Kirn belongs to the Bad Kreuznach district, Kirnsulzbach was a municipality in the Birkenfeld district before it was incorporated .

Of the 1008 inhabitants of Kirn-Sulzbach, 48.11% are Protestant , 40.77% Catholic , 9.42% non-denominational , 1.19% members of other religious communities , 0.49% no information.

history

The formerly independent municipality gained national fame because one of the first referendums in Germany was held there in 1923. So on March 11, 1923, at the request of 162 eligible voters, a vote on the early election of the municipal council was carried out. This resulted in 160 votes for and 115 votes against early new elections. The case is of legal historical interest because it was the only known successful referendum in the Oldenburg region of Birkenfeld at the time.

Buildings

The baroque high altar from 1772, which originally comes from the former simultaneous church of St. Pankratius in Kirn, is worth seeing . Sulzbach's Catholic parish church St. Josef Calasanza has housed it since 1990 as a permanent loan.
