Kiideva (German Kiwidepäh ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the municipality Haapsalu (until 2017: rural municipality Ridala ) in Lääne County in Estonia .
Population and location
The place has 35 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011) and is located on the Puise peninsula ( Puise poolsaar ), 16 kilometers from the core city of Haapsalu. To the south is Matsalu Bay ( Matsalu laht ).
The place belongs to the Matsalu National Park . There is a viewing platform on the beach. A hiking trail leads along the peninsula to the village of Puise .
court
The Kiideva court originated during the Swedish rule over Estonia. The earliest documented mention dates back to 1614. The last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German Hugo Baron Toll. The two-story wooden mansion dates from the end of the 19th century. The scale-like cladding of the facade is a special feature. The manor house has served as a primary school since 1967. Today there is a nature and art center on the property with its park.
port
The small port of Kalaküla is located south of the farm, directly on the Baltic Sea. A village museum has been showing the history of the place since 2000. The inhabitants traditionally lived from fishing in the waters of the Väinameri and on the island of Saaremaa . In the 1950s a fishing kolkhoz was built on the spot .
