Claudia (also Klaudia ) is a female given name ; male counterparts include Claudio and Claudiu . For the origin of the name, see Claudier .

In the first half of the 20th century the name Claudia was not very popular in Germany. However, since the early 1940s it has become increasingly popular. From the mid-sixties to the mid-seventies, the name consistently belonged to the ten most common female first names. It was even number one in the frequency statistics a few times in the late sixties. Since the late eighties, the name has gone out of style. In Austria it was one of the most popular first names until the mid-80s, until it fell sharply from 1986 and is no longer even among the first 60.
