Klaus Eulenberger (veterinarian)

Life

After graduating from high school in Limbach-Oberfrohna (1962), Eulenberger completed an apprenticeship as a zoo animal keeper in the Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt , which he completed in 1964 with a skilled worker qualification . In 1990 Klaus Eulenberger ended his work as senior assistant at the outpatient and obstetric veterinary clinic and head of the research group "Cattle Reproduction" at the University of Leipzig's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and became chief veterinarian at Leipzig Zoo . In 1992 he completed his training as a specialist veterinarian for zoo, enclosure and wild animals and became a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research in Berlin . He held this position until 2000. In 1994 the University of Leipzig appointed him honorary professor for pets and zoo animals . From 1996 to 1998, the veterinarian was the founding president of the European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians , and in 1997 he was granted further training in the subject of zoo, enclosure and wild animals . Eulenberger has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German veterinary weekly since 2000 . In 2002 he was awarded the Saxon Animal Welfare Medal .

At the end of 2009, Klaus Eulenberger finished his work as chief veterinarian at the Leipzig Zoo. After retiring, he continued to work as a consultant for the University of Leipzig, the Eschefeld nature reserve and the Limbach-Oberfrohna zoo . 2011, the veterinarian took a temporary replacement in the Leipzig Zoo, this time also fell euthanasia of Oppossumweibchen Heidi .
