Klaus Simon (diplomat)

Klaus Simon (born November 1, 1916 in Delitzsch ; † December 26, 2002 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German diplomat who was ambassador to Denmark and Finland , among other things .

Life

After graduating from high school , Simon studied law and political science and graduated in 1941 with the first state examination in law. In addition to his military service , he then completed his legal clerkship and was appointed assessor in 1943 . After his release from captivity in 1949, he continued his legal preparatory service in North Rhine-Westphalia . On September 1, 1951, he presented at the University of Kiel his promotion to Dr. jur. with a dissertation on the issue of liability grounds for animal owner liability . In 1953 he passed the second state examination in law in Düsseldorf and was subsequently appointed judge at the Siegburg district court .

After only a brief activity as a judge, he was appointed personal assistant to Robert Tillmanns , a federal minister for special tasks , who heads the cabinet in the council of elders of the German Bundestag in October 1953 . After the death of Robert Tillmanns on November 12, 1955, Simon moved to the Federal Ministry of the Interior , where he finally became personal advisor to Federal Interior Minister Gerhard Schröder in early 1958 . After Schröder became Federal Foreign Minister in 1961, Simon was appointed head of the ministerial office and promoted to ministerial director in early 1965 .

With the appointment of Willy Brandt as Federal Foreign Minister of the Grand Coalition in December 1966, Simon gave up the management of the ministerial office and succeeded Friedrich Buch as ambassador to Denmark . After four years of activity, Günther Scholl followed him there in 1970 .

After being used again at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn in 1974, he succeeded Detlev Scheel as Ambassador in Finland and retained this position until he was replaced by Fritz C. Menne in 1979.

Even after his retirement , he gave lectures on foreign policy issues such as in 1981 before the student association Corps Rhenania Tübingen on the subject of Kekkonen's legacy - Finland's neutrality policy .
