The Klausgraben is a brook in the 23rd district of Liesing in Vienna . It is a feeder of the Liesingbach .

The Klausgraben runs through the Kalksburg district . It rises in the Dorotheerwald south of the Eichwiese. Its ravine is up to 10 m deep. It flows through a fish table before it crosses the Breitenfurter Straße in a pipe passage and flows into the Liesingbach.

There is no risk of flooding at the Klausgraben. In the event of a flood of the century , neither the infrastructure nor the resident population are affected.

The pipe passage for the Klausgraben under the Breitenfurter Straße was built in 1950.

ecology

The Klausgraben fish pond serves as spawning water for common toads ( Bufo bufo ) and common frogs ( Rana temporaria ). Fire salamanders ( Salamandra salamandra ) spawn further upstream . White-backed woodpeckers ( Dendrocopos leucotos ) have also been observed by the stream .

On the left bank of the Klausgraben, there is a mixed forest of distressed and sessile oaks , to which ash , summer linden , beech , hornbeam , service tree and pointed maple are mixed. Among the dominant species in its herb layer includes the batting sedge ( Carex pilosa ). The plant species real daphne ( Daphne mezereum ) and black germer ( Veratrum nigrum ), which are strictly protected under the Vienna Nature Conservation Act, also grow on the stream .
