Small backwater

The Kleines Altwasser nature reserve is the smallest nature reserve in the Germersheim district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The approximately 13 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983 , extends north of the local community of Neuburg am Rhein . The state road 556 runs not far to the east, the Rhine also flows to the east and the state border with Baden-Württemberg runs .
The purpose of protection is the preservation of the diverse and richly structured old inflow with the water areas, silting areas , reed and reed areas in all its manifestations as a location for rare plant species and plant communities as well as a habitat for rare animal species that are threatened in their existence and for scientific reasons.
