Knights Valley AVA (recognized since October 21, 1983) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in Sonoma County , just east of the Alexander Valley AVA and Chalk Hill AVA between Jimtown and Calistoga . This Denomination of Origin is one of the first five specified wine-growing regions in Sonoma County. The currently planted vineyards are spread over approx. 30 layers, which are worked by as many winegrowers. Due to its eastern location on the slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains , this area has the warmest climate of any wine-growing region in Sonoma County. The Napa Valley AVA joins further east .

climate

The warm daytime temperatures and cool nights favor the cultivation of grape varieties from Bordeaux or the Rhône . Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular grape variety in the Knights Valley. But Merlot , Cabernet Franc , Malbec and Petit Verdot as well as Sauvignon Blanc , Chardonnay , Viognier and Syrah also thrive very well.

Wineries

The two largest producers of wines of this appellation are the companies Beringer Vineyards and Kendall Jackson Winery.
