The gmina wiejska Kościan [ ˈkɔɕʨan ] is an independent rural community in Poland in the powiat Kościan in the Greater Poland Voivodeship . Its seat is in the city of Kościan (German costs ). The rural community, to which the city of Kościan itself does not belong, has an area of 202.7 km², on which (as of June 30, 2019) 16,119 people live.

The rural community is located on the Obra , about 45 kilometers south of the city of Posen (Poznań). It surrounds the city of Kościan on all sides.
history
From 1975 to 1998 the rural municipality belonged to the Leszno Voivodeship .
