Kō Itakura ( Japanese 板倉 滉 , Itakura Kō ; born January 27, 1997 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese football player .

Career

Itakura learned to play football in the youth team of Kawasaki Frontale . He signed his first contract with Kawasaki Frontale in 2015. The club played in the highest league in the country, the J1 League . In 2015 he played twice in the J.League U-22 Selection . This team, which played in the third division, the J3 League , was made up of the best young players from the higher-class clubs. The team was founded with a view to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . The players were selected on a weekly basis from a pool for which each club was able to name talented individuals worth promoting; the composition of the team therefore varied greatly from game to game. With the club he became Japanese champion in 2017 . In 2018 he was loaned to the first division club Vegalta Sendai . For the club he completed 24 first division games. In January 2019, the English club Manchester City signed him . However, his new club immediately loaned him to FC Groningen .

In 2019, Itakura made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team . He has played a total of three international matches for Japan.
