Kocaköy also Karaz is a town in the same district of the Turkish province of Diyarbakir while a municipality in 1993 created Büyükşehir Belediyesi Diyarbakir (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province). Kocaköy is located in the middle of the province and was previously called Karaz. The current name Kocaköy means big village .
Traces of Stone Age settlement can be found in the district . In the Ottoman Empire , Karaz belonged to Palu . Until 1972, Kocaköy was a village in Lice County . In 1976 it received the status of Belediye and became an independent county in 1990.
