Kodak Alaris is a British photography company based in Hemel Hempstead . It is active in 34 countries.

history

Kodak Alaris was created on September 3, 2013 through the takeover of the business areas Personalized Imaging and Document Imaging of the insolvent company Kodak by KPP Trustees Ltd. British pension funds Kodak Pension Plan of the United Kingdom for 650 million US dollars and the waiver of claims against Kodak in the amount of 2.8 billion US dollars after an original sale to Brother Industries had failed. KPP bought Kodak Alaris with the intention of securing the pensions of Kodak retirees in the UK who had lost their payer in the bankruptcy of the Eastman Kodak Company . As a result of this acquisition, 4,700 employees from 30 countries moved to Kodak Alaris, which expected annual sales of 1.3 billion US dollars. The addition Alaris was derived from the Latin word Alacritas, which means lively in German. The new company is based in London. Only the photo paper is produced directly by Kodak Alaris; the photo films are produced by the former parent company Kodak in the USA and only distributed by Kodak Alaris. Kodak Alaris has been granted a perpetual license to use the Kodak brand name. On the same day, the former parent company Kodak, which now wants to concentrate on the professional printer business, left the bankruptcy proceedings.

Dennis Olbrich is the President of the Personalized Imaging division; the Document Imaging division is headed by Dolores Kruchten as President. Both work in Rochester . As CEO of the entire group was the German manager Ralf appointed Gerbershagen on 14 February 2014 at the previously Motorola Mobility was working and the company from its headquarters in Hemel Hempstead forwards. He officially took up this post on April 1, 2014, replacing interim boss Steven Ross. Former IBM manager Mark Elliott, who is based in Florida , has been Chairman of the Board since May 1, 2014 .

In fiscal 2014, Kodak Alaris sales of around 1 billion US dollars , with an operating loss of 32.1 million US dollars. Sales of 1.3 billion US dollars were expected.

Since 2015 Kodak Alaris has been divided into the divisions Retail Systems Solutions and Event Imaging Solutions , headed by Nicoletta A. Zongrone and Paper & Output Systems and Film Capture , headed by Dennis Olbrich. Dolores Kruchten left Kodak Alaris with effect from the end of May 2015 and moved to the previous parent company Eastman Kodak Company , where she was appointed Deputy Head of the Eastman Business Park in Rochester (Kodak's largest production and development facility) on August 19, 2015 .

In April 2016, the company announced that it would close its production facility in Harrow (London) with 250 employees by the end of the year. The factory was opened by George Eastman in 1890 and last produced photo paper. A few days later, the CEO Ralf Gerbershagen resigned. His successor was the previous COO Jeff Goodman. On January 1, 2017, the Frenchman Marc Jourlait was appointed CEO by Chairman Mark Elliott, who, unlike Ralf Gerbershagen, will not run the company from the headquarters in Hemel Shirtstead, but from Rochester, New York, where the main operational business areas of the Company are located.

As of 2019, Kodak Alaris consists of the four divisions Kodak Moments (photo kiosks), PPF (paper, photo chemistry and film), Alaris (document scanner ) and AI Foundry (software).

At the end of January 2018, it was announced that the PPF (paper, photochemistry and film) division, which now accounts for less than a quarter of Kodak Alaris' total sales, is for sale. Since films were never produced by Kodak Alaris, but always by the former parent company Eastman Kodak Company and the last own production facilities for photo paper except for a packaging in Brazil (which however produces photo paper for the Kodak Moments photo kiosks and is therefore not included in the sales process ) were closed, the business now for sale only includes the worldwide distribution rights under the Kodak brand. The sales price was quoted as $ 34 million. Since Kodak Alaris was hardly profitable during its existence, the previous owner KPP ran a deficit of 1.5 billion British pounds. Should this deficit not be reduced through sales of business units or increased profitability, Kodak Alaris would be passed on to the UK Pension Protection Fund , a pension fund set up by the British government with the task of servicing pension claims which are funded by the pension funds of the former Employers can no longer be served.

In Germany, the company is represented by Kodak Alaris Germany GmbH, based in Stuttgart .
