Colony Zern is a residential area in Kemnitz , a district of the Werder (Havel) municipality in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg. The district is located about 4 kilometers northwest of Werder (Havel) and 2 kilometers west of Kemnitz. Until December 31, 2001, the Zern colony was part of what was then the Kemnitz community. The Zern colony is located on the west bank of the Great Zernsee.

history

The Zern colony was already used by people in the Neolithic Age. For example, when the Reichsautobahn was being built in 1935, a dugout canoe from the Neolithic Age was found at the transition to the Early Bronze Age. Urns from the Middle to Late Bronze Age were found in an urn burial ground. Further to the west there was another urn grave field which mainly dates from 500 BC. Was used until 50 AD. A Roman gem was also found here.

The village of Zernow from the High Middle Ages was located on the Großer Zernsee, and was already desolate again in the 14th century. In any case, it was no longer mentioned in the land register in 1375. In 1541 the field mark Zernow was mentioned as desolate. In the same year a farm was built in the desert Feldmark. Zern is probably derived from the Slavic name and means black. The field mark was counted to Kemnitz. In 1450 the district fell to the von Rochow family . In the year the von Görne family took over the district. In 1607 the von Rochow family were again owners of the district, from 1685 it belonged again to the von Görne family. From 1717 the von Marwitz family were owners, from 1735 the Britzke family. After the First World War, a fruit grower colony was established, and the name Zern colony was official from 1927. In 1992 the Zern colony became part of the Werder office, and since 2003 it has been a district of Werder.

location

Zern colony is located on Phöbener Chaussee, a road from Werder to the A 10 motorway . To the southwest there is an industrial site, to the northeast there are weekend houses and some single-family houses. There is also a motel in bungalows here. There is a sewage treatment plant directly north of the motorway. The Elka shipyard was located in the district, and a street is named after her.
