The Kommodore Ruser is a former German pilot station ship that was stationed in the Elbe estuary .

She is one of six ships of the same type of the Commodore Rolin class , which were or are partly still stationed in the mouths of the Elbe, Weser / Jade and Ems waters . The Kommodore Ruser was built under construction number 519 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . The keel was laid on April 29, the launch on August 15, 1963. The completion took place in April 1964.

The propulsion of the ship was diesel-electric . The two drive motors, each with an output of 456  kW, acted on two fixed propellers . The ship reached a speed of 13  knots .

The ship was owned by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and operated by Lotsbetriebsverein e. V., branch office Cuxhaven , at the station Elbe.

The Kommodore Ruser last served as a replacement ship for the SWATH pilot station ship Elbe , which had replaced the captain Hilgendorf, who was decommissioned in July 2001 , and was always used when the Elbe, for its part, moved the station in the Elbe estuary to change personnel and to bunker in Cuxhaven had to leave temporarily. At the beginning of 2010 the ship was finally decommissioned.

Whereabouts of the ship

The Kommodore Ruser was sold in 2011 and brought back into service as OMS Heidelberg under the flag of Tanzania . The ship was bought by Offshore Marine Services in Cape Town , South Africa and Heidelberg PTY in the Republic of Botswana .

The ship was made ready to sail again in Emden. It reached Cape Town on May 27, 2011, where the ship was converted into a safety and service ship for offshore use. At the beginning of 2014 the ship was transferred to the company Nemsa Services in the British Virgin Islands and renamed Defiant .
