The Kapitän Hilgendorf was a pilot station ship of the Commodore Rolin class . It was stationed in the Elbe estuary . The Kapitän Hilgendorf was built in 1960/61 as the only one of six ships of the same type at the Schichau shipyard in Bremerhaven . The keel was laid on June 13, 1960.

The ship was owned by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and operated by Lotsbetriebsverein e. V. Branch office Cuxhaven . On board there were 25 cabins with a total of 70 beds, which were available to 28 crew members and up to 42 pilots . There was an officers' and a crew mess for the crew, and a pilot mess for the pilots.

The ship, which was named after the captain Robert Hilgendorf , was decommissioned in July 2001 and initially laid up in Rendsburg . It was replaced by the SWATH pilot station ship Elbe .

Whereabouts of the ship

After the decommissioning, u. a. the support group Bremer Denkmalschiff , who wants to bring a museum ship to Bremen , for the captain Hilgendorf . However, the sale did not materialize. Eventually, the British Virgin Islands based company Eagle Shipping Ltd. bought the ship and brought it as Captain Hilgen under the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines . Eagle Shipping launched the ship in Cuxhaven until it was resold in 2006 for 1.25 million euros. In October 2006, it became Peters Schiffbau in Wewelsfleth transferred, where the megayacht Penguin (Flag: Luxembourg, call sign: J8B3243) should be rebuilt. After the conversion, the yacht should have four decks and a helicopter landing deck at the stern . A total of 12 passengers should be able to be accommodated in six suites. The crew should consist of up to 17 people.

After the owner of the ship bought another yacht, the conversion of the ship was stopped. The incompletely converted ship was offered for sale for 7.95 million euros. The price was lowered several times, but the ship did not appear to be sold. It was finally dismantled and the hull scrapped.
