Konrad Heinrich von Wedel

Konrad Heinrich von Wedel (born February 18, 1741 in Stare near Krojanke , Flatow district ; † January 7, 1813 in Burg (near Magdeburg) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Ludwig von Wedel († 1751) and his wife Barbara, born von der Goltz (1706–1786) from the Beeskau family. His father was Mr. von Stare and Beeskau (Deutsch-Krone district).

Military career

Wedel came to Berlin as a cadet on March 29, 1756 and was hired on May 25, 1757 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt-Dessau" . During the Seven Years' War he was wounded in the battle of Kay and was taken prisoner in the battle near Maxen , from which he was only released after the war. Before that he became an ensign on November 21, 1759 and second lieutenant on November 7, 1761 .

After the war Wedel advanced to captain and company commander until June 3, 1777 . He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and became major on June 3, 1788 . In the First Coalition War Wedel fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the capture of Frankfurt am Main , the siege of Mainz and Lindau and in the battles near Kaiserslautern and Trippstadt . On July 23, 1793 he received the order Pour le Mérite for Mainz . On January 26, 1794, he was appointed commander of the infantry regiment "von Kalckstein" . In this capacity Wedel rose on January 10, 1796 to lieutenant colonel and on May 10, 1798 to colonel . With the mobilization of 1805 he was appointed brigadier . His corps included the infantry regiments "Louis Ferdinand" and "von Kleist", the grenadier battalion "Hanstein" (consisting of the grenadier companies of the regiments "Louis Ferdinand" and "von Kleist") and a heavy battery . In addition, Wedel was promoted to major general on May 20, 1806 with a patent from March 21, 1806. During the Fourth Coalition War he was badly wounded in the battle of Auerstedt by a shot in the chest. Wedel suffered from this wound until his death.

After the lost war and the peace of Tilsit he was put on half pay on September 3, 1807 . To improve his situation he received on April 2, 1810 from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. a gift of 200 thalers. Wedel died on January 7, 1813 near Burg as a result of the wound he had suffered near Auerstedt.

Wedel married Eleonore Wilhelmine von Rauchhaupt (1754-1832), daughter of Wilhelm Gustav von Rauchhaupt (1727-1762) and Wilhelmine Dorothea von Schmertzing (1728-1763) in Trebnitz in 1777 . The couple had several children:
