FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup 1978/79

The 1978/79 season was the 8th season of the Korać Cup held by FIBA Europe .

As in the previous year, the title was won by KK Partizan Belgrade from Yugoslavia .

mode

30 teams from 12 nations took part. After the qualifying round, 28 teams played an elimination round. The winners of these games qualified for the group stage, which consisted of four groups of four teams each. The first in each group reached the semi-finals, followed by the final. The winners of the pairings in round 1 and in the semi-finals were determined in the first and second leg. The final was played in one game at a neutral location.

Even before the start of the season, it was clear that the final in honor of Radivoje Korać , whose tenth anniversary of death was taking place in Belgrade . In order to reduce the home advantage of Partizan, the game was not played in his hall, but in the Pionir Hall Belgrade .
