Koru Tito

Koru Tito (born September 30, 1960 on Tabiteuea ) is a Kiribati Roman Catholic clergyman and appointed bishop of Tarawa and Nauru .

Life

Koru Tito graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a degree in Education in 1979 . From 1981 to 1985 he studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at Pacific Regional Seminary in Fiji . On June 20, 1987, Tito received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Tarawa and Nauru.

After his ordination, Koru Tito first worked as a pastor on the islands of Beru , Nikunau and Onotoa . From 1990 to 1991 he completed a year of study at St. Paul's National Seminary in Kensington , Australia . During this time he was also the parish vicar of St. Andrew's parish in Clayton South . After returning to his homeland, Koru Tito became a pastor on the islands of Kuria , Aranuka and Abemama . In 1993 Tito was sent to Rome for further studies , where he obtained a degree in spiritual theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas and received his doctorate . From 2001 to 2008 he taught at Pacific Regional Seminary . Koru Tito then worked as a pastor at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in South Tarawa before becoming Vicar General of the Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru in 2010 .

On June 20, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Tarawa and Nauru.
