Koschariza [ koˈʃaritsɐ ] ( Bulgarian Кошарица ) is a village in Bulgaria in the municipality of Nessebar , Burgas Oblast . The village lies in the eastern transition of the Upper Thracian lowlands to the foothills of the eastern Balkan mountains . Koscharitsa is located 3 km west of Sunny Beach , the largest tourist destination in Bulgaria. Albena in the north is not very far either. It is 3 km to the Black Sea.

The old Turkish name of the village was Kaschl-Dere (Bulgarian Кашлъ-дере). He was first mentioned in writing after the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) when the local Circassian left the village. After the Balkan War of 1913 and the expulsion of the Bulgarians in Thrace , refugees were settled in Koschariza, including eight families from what is now the Turkish town of Kavaklı .

The village holiday of Koscharitsa is November 1st, which is Ivan Rilski Day according to the old calendar .

economy

In contrast to many other Bulgarian villages, Koscharitsa is developing very well, as toutism is flourishing here. In the center there is a new white church and there is a new school. In the direction of Sunny Beach there is a wealthy residential area that expands further and further towards Sunny Beach every year. The area is called the Almond Hills (Bulgarian Бадемови хълмове, English Almond Hills), but only 2 hectares of the almond trees are left. Because of the lively construction activity and the noble villas that are emerging, it is also called Beverly Hills by the population . Until a few years ago the village consisted of only 10 houses and everyone was known, but today 50% foreigners live in the village, who spend most of the year here.

The village has a lively night life. There are many hiking trails, mountain biking is possible. A golf course is currently under construction (as of Sept. 2007).

In the immediate vicinity of the village is the Kalinata nature reserve with a primeval forest (Longosen forest). Koscharitsa is on the Natura 2000 list (a network of protected areas in Europe) as it is an important point on the bird migration route Via Pontica .
