Kranichau is a district of the town of Torgau in the northern Saxony district in Saxony .

The estate settlement with estate block corridor is located south of the town of Torgau in the Elbaue on the Elbwiesen and a little east of the federal highway 182 but still in the Beckwitz-Belgernsche valley sand plain .

history

In 1251 the estate settlement was called Cranekowe until, after constant minor changes, it was called Kranichau in 1880 .

In 1510, Kranichau was a farm with 40 inhabitants. Later (1895) a manor with 129 hectares of land was developed. In 1946 192 people lived in the hamlet , previously there were 125. The responsible administrative office was always based in Torgau, taking into account the social development. The hamlet has been part of the Northern Saxony district since 2008. Both hamlets (Kranichau and Klein Kranichau ) parish to Weßnig . On July 1, 1950, Kranichau was incorporated into Mehderitzsch and from 1994 belonged to Pflückuff . On January 1, 2009, Kranichau became a district of the city of Torgau.
