Szarvas (Hungarian Szarvasi járás ) is a district in the west of the southeastern Hungarian Békés County . It is bordered by Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county to the north and west and Csongrád-Csanád county to the south-west . The district was created in the course of the Hungarian administrative reform in early 2013 as the successor to the small area of the same name ( Szarvasi kistérség ) from 6 of the 8 municipalities. Two communities from the northeast ( Gyomaendrőd and Hunya ) came into the newly created Gyomaendrőd district . The area decreased by 33,651 inhabitants (41%) and 143.51 square kilometers (33.5%).
The district has an average community size of 4,537 inhabitants on an area of ​​80.84 square kilometers. The population density is slightly below that of the county. The district seat is located in the largest city of Szarvas in the north of the district.
